Nancy Photo

Nancy Higgins

Primary Therapist

As a registered mental health clinician intern trained in EMDR and trauma-informed care, I’m passionate about helping people live their best lives. My journey in this field has been shaped by diverse experiences in early childhood education, behavioral therapy, and crisis intervention.

I started my career after earning my undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Education. For five years, I worked with children in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), which gave me valuable insights into behavioral patterns and interventions.

A turning point in my career came when I joined a mobile crisis team. This experience opened my eyes to the critical need for mental health support and inspired me to pursue this path further. I went on to complete my master’s degree in mental health counseling, during which I received specialized training in trauma-informed care and EMDR therapy.

After finishing my studies, I moved to Florida to focus on substance use treatment. For the past four years, I’ve been working in treatment centers, supporting individuals on their journey to recovery and better mental health. I utilize both EMDR and trauma-informed approaches to help clients process past experiences and develop healthier coping mechanisms.

I believe my background in education, behavioral analysis, crisis intervention, and specialized trauma treatment allows me to offer a unique perspective in my work. I’m committed to providing compassionate, effective care that’s tailored to each person’s specific needs.

My goal is simple: to help people live their best life.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What mental health conditions are treated at Diamond Behavioral Health Palm Beach Gardens?

Diamond Behavioral Health Palm Beach Gardens treats a wide range of mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, PTSD, mood disorders, and co-occurring substance use disorders. We specialize in trauma-focused care and help clients identify the root causes behind emotional and behavioral challenges, not just manage surface-level symptoms.

Our facility offers a full range of evidence-based therapies including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), trauma therapy, EMDR, and experiential modalities like art and music therapy. Clients participate in individual therapy, group therapy, and family counseling, all grounded in our trauma-informed, person-centered philosophy.

We support long-term recovery through individualized aftercare planning, alumni support groups, and transitional case management. From the start of treatment, our team collaborates with clients to coordinate outpatient therapy, psychiatric follow-up, housing resources, and referrals for continued care, ensuring every client leaves with a plan in place.

Our clinical philosophy is rooted in the belief that behaviors like substance use, anxiety, and self-harm are often symptoms of deeper pain. We take a core-issue approach, helping clients explore unresolved trauma, family dynamics, and maladaptive coping patterns. The goal is to heal from the inside out, not just manage the diagnosis.

Our residential program includes individual and group therapy, trauma-informed care, DBT/CBT, case management, daily wellness and fitness, catered meals, and 24/7 medical support. Clients also participate in expressive therapies, weekend outings, and evening self-help meetings for a fully immersive healing experience.

We treat co-occurring disorders with integrated psychiatric and clinical care, medication management, and dual-diagnosis group therapy. Whether someone is struggling with depression and substance use, or anxiety and trauma, our multidisciplinary team builds a treatment plan that addresses the whole person.

We provide 24/7 nursing care, daily psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and ongoing medical support under the direction of a board-certified psychiatrist. Our clinical and medical teams work closely to ensure every client receives safe, coordinated, and responsive care throughout their stay.

All therapy is delivered by Masters-level, licensed clinicians with advanced training in trauma, DBT, EMDR, and family systems. Medical care is overseen by our Medical Director, Dr. Levi Kahane, and supported by our experienced psychiatric nurse practitioners and nursing staff.

A typical day includes morning mindfulness, group therapy, psychoeducation, individual sessions, wellness groups (like yoga or fitness), and structured recreation. Evenings are reserved for self-help groups, creative expression, and community-based activities. Every day is carefully programmed to support structure, healing, and engagement.

Our aftercare support includes discharge planning, referrals to outpatient therapy or PHP/IOP, medication follow-up, housing coordination, and weekly alumni meetings via Zoom. We stay connected through monthly newsletters, peer support, and ongoing contact with our alumni coordinator to help clients maintain progress beyond treatment.
